Reporting and blocking someone
What happens when you report or block a student or tutor, what they see, and how to undo it.
Updated August 25, 2026
Both tutors and students can report and block each other. Reporting tells the Vocally team what happened. Blocking cuts all contact between the two of you, immediately and without waiting for a review.
Where to find it
- In the chat — the flag icon reports the person, the ban icon blocks them.
- In the lesson room — the Report button in the top bar, so you can flag a lesson while it is happening.
- In your calendar — open a lesson and use Report user, for tutors.
- On a tutor’s profile — Report this tutor, for students.
Reporting
Pick a category — harassment, inappropriate behavior, off-platform payment, spam, safety concern or other — and describe what happened. You get an email confirming we received it, and another one when the team resolves it.
When you choose harassment or safety concern, the Also block option is switched on for you. You can turn it off if you only want to report.
Blocking
Before you confirm, the dialog shows exactly what will change:
- Upcoming lessons between you are cancelled — every one of them, including lessons less than 12 hours away. The student is refunded in full, package credits and subscription lessons go back, and nobody is penalised.
- Neither of you can message the other. The conversation is archived on both sides. Old messages stay readable.
- The student can no longer book you or open your profile. You disappear from their search results and your profile link shows “not found” for them. Their favourites and any pending reschedule proposal are cleared.
- The other person is not told they were blocked. Everything simply shows as unavailable.
A student who blocks a tutor gets the same rules in the other direction.
Undoing a block
Go to Settings → Blocked users. Each entry shows when you blocked the person, the reason you gave and the status of the linked report, if any. Unblock restores messaging, booking and profile access. Lessons cancelled by the block are not restored — you would need to book again.
What the team does with reports
Reports are reviewed by Vocally staff, who can see whether you also blocked the person and how many other reports the same account has received. Repeated or serious reports lead to the account being deactivated across the platform.
