For students
How do I find and book a tutor?
Browse the tutor catalog, filter by language, price and specialties, then book a trial or a lesson directly from the tutor’s profile.
What is a trial lesson?
A shorter, reduced-price lesson so you can meet a tutor before committing. Trials are available in 25- or 50-minute lengths, and you can take one trial per tutor.
How do payments work?
Payments are handled securely through Stripe. You pay per lesson, or buy a discounted package of lessons with the same tutor. See payments, packages & cancellations.
What is the cancellation policy?
You can cancel on your own up to 12 hours before the lesson starts and get a full refund. Inside those last 12 hours you ask your tutor to reschedule instead, and they decide. See the Terms of Service for the full policy.
When can I review a tutor?
After your first completed paid lesson with them. Trial lessons don’t unlock reviews — the trial is there to find out whether you’re a good match.
For tutors
How do I become a tutor?
Sign up with the Tutor option selected, then complete the five-step profile setup. See creating your tutor account and setting up your tutor profile.
How long does profile approval take?
Our team reviews new tutor profiles — usually within a few days. Your profile is not visible to students until it’s approved, and the current status is always shown on your tutor dashboard.
I forgot my password. What now?
Request a reset link from the sign-in page. See resetting your password.
What fee does Vocally take?
It is free to create a tutor profile — no subscription and no listing fees. Trial lessons are split 50/50 with Vocally. Regular lessons use a tiered service fee from 25% down to 15%, based on your total completed teaching hours: the more hours you teach, the lower your fee.
How and when do I get paid?
Connect your Stripe account from your tutor dashboard — you can’t be listed to students until you do.
A student has 7 days after a lesson to report a problem with it. We hold what you earned for 14 days — that reporting window plus room to review a request — and then the money is yours. You never have to ask for it.
Once released it moves on its own: Vocally transfers your available balance to your Stripe account as soon as it reaches $20, and Stripe pays it into your bank on its own schedule, which you can see in your Stripe dashboard.
So a lesson you teach today is on its way to you about two weeks from now, every time — it does not matter which day of the month you taught it.
Your Vocally earnings page shows both figures at once: what is still on hold, with the date the next part of it is released, and what is already available.
Does a trial lesson affect my rating?
No. Students can only review a tutor after completing a paid lesson with them, so a trial never produces a rating.
